Research Summary

Our research has two distinct, but related goals: to improve our knowledge of the internal structure and the interactions of nucleons and their hadronic partners, and to better understand the nucleonic structure of the deuteron and heavier nuclei. To pursue these goals, we mostly use electrons and photons as probes, which are both well-understood and interact weakly enough to probe the whole nuclear volume. Most of our experiments are conducted at the nearby Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab or Jefferson Lab) where we are (co-)spokespersons of over a dozen approved experiments since its beginning. We have made major contributions to the equipment, software and experiments in all three Halls and we will play a major role in the instrumentation and the physics program for the coming energy upgrade of the Lab. We also participate in the STAR experiment at Brookhaven National Lab.
