WebAssign Deadlines

1. The deadline for entering your registration number in WebAssign will be Tuesday, September 05, 2000 at 6:00 AM. If you have not registered by that date you will be locked out of WebAssign. If you have been locked out e-mail Dr. Kuhn with your registration number which is listed in your WebAssign Student Packet available at the Bookstore.

2.    Assignment solutions must be submitted before 11:59 pm on the due date. Following that you will prevented from submitting your answers.

About WebAssign
This Fall Physics 232 will be using WebAssign for submission and grading of (most of) your homework. You will still work out problems with paper and pencil, but answers will be submitted online to the WebAssign website. One of the benefits of this system is that you will receive immediate feedback as to whether or not you have completed the problem correctly. Multiple submissions (usually 5) of each assignment will be allowed, so if you initially work out a problem incorrectly you will have an opportunity to rework the problem correctly and receive credit.

Each week a new assignment will be posted. The current assignment, with due date, is listed on the schedule and be given when you log onto WebAssign. Note that WebAssign will not accept submission of homework passed the due date.

Homework problems will originate from the textbook. Note that WebAssign can alter the numbers in individual problems from those appearing in the text. You should, therefore, read all problems on WebAssign carefully. Some solutions to homework problems will be posted on the course homepage after the assignment due date.

In order to benefit from your homework, you should still neatly write up problems and keep a notebook or binder with all your work. You may be asked to hand in your homework binder for review at anytime.

And remember, the academic integrity code is to be maintained at all times. Submitting answers on WebAssign for problems that you have not worked out is cheating.

Logging on to WebAssign

Please read all the information that came with your WebAssign Student Packet before logging onto the system. WebAssign can be accessed on the internet at www.webassign.net. When you go to the logon page you will be asked for a Username, Institution, and Password. Your username is constructed as follows. In lowercase letters, combine your first and middle initial with your last name. If you do not have a middle initial, then use your first initial and last name. Do not include Jr or III... If your last name is hyphenated or consists of several words, your username is first initial, second inital and then your full name (all words) without any blanks or hyphens. For example:

 Student Name  Usename
Jane C. Smith  jcsmith
Michael Smith  msmith
 Robert A. Jones-Meyer, Jr  rajonesmeyer

For Institution, use odu. For password, use your Student ID number without hyphens. If your student ID number has letters in it, then those letters should be entered in uppercase. For example, Jane C. Smith would enter:

Username: jcsmith

Institution: odu

Password: P00456789

IMPORTANT CHANGE: If your student ID number begins with a "@" symbol, that symbol is NOT part of your password. Also, all leading zero's are left out. For example, if your student ID number is "@000123456", then your password would be "123456".

Registering with WebAssign

The registration number that you received with your WebAssign Student Packet will be needed to register yourself as an official WebAssign user. For the first six days (till September 5), you can use WebAssign without registering, then you will be asked to provide your registration number to continue using WebAssign. You will provide your registration number by completing an assignment which only asks for the number.

If you do not register with WebAssign before September 5, you will be locked out of the system. To get back on, you must send an email to Dr. Kuhn with your name, ID#, WebAssign registration #, and a brief explanation of why you failed to register as instructed. You will not receive any further credit for homework until you are properly registered.
After logging on to WebAssign

After you have successfully logged onto WebAssign, you should see your "Current Assignments" along with due date and time and the number of allowed submissions. Note that at this time your instructors name appears under "Important Announcements".

Click on your first assignment "WebAssign Use" and answer the questions. Remember, unless otherwise stated, WebAssign considers answers with one percent accuracy to be correct. In general, this means entering 3 significant figures. This is just a practice assignment to familiarize you with the new system. Don't worry, this assignment will not effect your class grade.
